With the discipline project management approach, you will have a knowledge base of proven methods to ensure that your IT projects are on time, on budget, and meet the customer’s needs. This course is a process-oriented practical project management course emphasizing both knowledge and skill. IT Project Management builds on the Project Management Institute PMBOK(r); Guide to provide a solid framework and context for managing information technology projects. This course helps prepare students to earn and maintain Project Management Professional (PMP(r)); and Certified Associate of Project Management (CAPM (r)); certifications from the Project Management Institute (PMI). This course is a lecture/lab (using Microsoft Project) and has an IT emphasis. Note: Students in the online section who are unfamiliar with MSP may need to purchase Course 4111: Core Training for Microsoft Office Project from Microsoft eLearning(r); (www. microsoftelearning.com), in lieu of onsite ACC lab time Prerequisites: At least 12 months experience working as a member of an IT organization. BMGT 1040 PMP Exam Prep (35.0 hours/$699.00)
This course is a PMBOK-oriented exam review course, emphasizing PMBOK knowledge only, structured around the 9 knowledge areas of the PMBOK, and focused on exactly what is necessary to pass the exam. The course will start off with an overview of the PMP Exam including how to apply, eligibility criteria, and scheduling the actual test. The class will then focus on definitions and formulas in addition to addressing all the processes and knowledge areas covered on the exam. Practice questions from each section and exam strategies will be covered as well. Considerable practice and preparation outside of the class is necessary to successfully pass the PMP exam. This course is strictly PMI examination preparation. Students should see www.pmi.org for the PMIr; examination requirements. Prerequisites: BMGT 1023-IT Project Management, a process-oriented PM course or equivalent. Agile project leaders deliver high-impact business results by relying on self-organizing teams to plan, execute and innovate throughout the project lifecycle. Rather than plan, instruct, and direct, the agile project leader educates, coaches, and facilitates. Development of these critical skills and the process and tools that support the agile team is the focus of this course. Special emphasis on leadership development and enabling organizational change will be central to this certification course.
