Nursing - Continuing Education

The following course offerings are for both RNs and LVNs. Courses include advanced specialty skills for the practicing nurse, current clinical practice issues, and “refresher” topics for nurses re-entering the clinical workplace or expanding their skills to a new clinical specialty. Most courses qualify for Type-I continuing education credit (CNE). Contract Program Coordinator 512.223.7055 for courses listed below. PHRX 3001 Pharmacology Dosage Calculations (16.0 hours/$25.00)
An online course offering complete understanding of using 2 different measuring systems in medical practice to determine converting one system to the other, dosages in multiple dosage forms, dosages based on weight, and routes of administration. The course will include workforce applicable calculations of flow rates for intravenous administration. This course will allow practicing health care professionals a review and also an avenue for students to receive credit for dosage calculations when taking a 3 credit hour pharmacology course at another institution.

RNSG 2036 Advanced IV Therapy (8.0 hours/$150.00/$11.50 Lab/$3.50 Insurance)
This 8-hour hands-on training will help students develop skills for intravenous (IV) therapy. Designed for the LVN who has not managed IV's before or the RN who needs to update skills for the workplace. In addition to IV Therapy initiation, this course will include: fluids and electrolytes, drip calculation, TPN and blood administration, central lines with their care, and IV pushes.

SCWK 2002 Social Security Disability Advocacy (20.0 hours/$125.00)
This 20-hour online training course will give guidelines for the professional who is advising the client seeking social security disability benefits. Module I covers the responsibilities of the professional advising the client. Modules II-IV covers the disability and health components of impairment. Course provides 20 continuing education contact hours for nurses (RN & LVN), counselors (LCDC, LPC, LMFT) and social workers (state of Texas). Paralegals, case managers, case intake specialists, workers compensation, human resource staff, and others receive 20 contact hours of general college continuing education credit.
