EKG Technician

Study of the principles and basic electrocardiographic procedures that prepare persons to perform noninvasive procedures in a healthcare setting. Includes basic anatomy & physiology of the circulatory systems and interpretation of basic and life-threatening arrhythmias. Program outline based upon criteria for Cardiovascular Credentialing International examination as a Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT). 352 total contact hours.

Fundamentals of the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, dynamics of cardiac function as it relates to mechanics & electrical elements of the heartbeat rate & rhythm. 12-lead EKG is used to identify lethal & dangerous life threatening dysrhythmias. Includes role of caregiver in reporting & participating in "code" situations. Designed for the unlicensed employee in a clinic or general nursing unit. Core course for Clinical Technician Certificate.

ECRD 1070 Advanced Dysrythmia Interpretation (16.0 hours/$65.00)
Review A-V blocks, intraventricular blocks, pacemaker rhythms as well as pharmacological, electrical and mechanical treatments of dysrhythmias applicable to advanced clinical practice in a cardiac unit. Good review prior to ACLS. Calipers required. (Approved for CNE for nurses and EMS personnel).

MDCA 1044 Electrocardiography: Intermediate (48.0 hours/$180.00/$13.50 Insurance)
Principles and procedures of 12 lead electrocardiography (EKG), arrhythmia interpretation, and care and maintenance of equipment and exam area. Includes stress testing and Holter monitoring. Required Supplies: calipers. Completed application (proof of vaccinations, etc.) required prior to registering for this program/course.
