Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor
The courses below satisfy part of the 270 hours (series of 6 Pre-Service courses) of required classroom coursework in preparation for certification as an LCDC. 135 of these hours must be A&D. (R) = Related course, (A&D) = Specific chemical dependency course. The Internships qualify for the required 300 hour supervised internship, and may be taken once the 270 hours of classroom work has been completed. Austin Community College is a provider approved by the TCBADAC Standards Committee, Provider No. 0975-93. (These courses are also approved for CE for LCDC, Nurses, Social Workers, and LPC’s). DAAC 1019 Introduction to Alcohol and Other Drug Addictions

Causes and consequences of addiction as they relate to the individual, family, community, and society are discussed. Response alternatives regarding intervention, treatment, education, and prevention are reviewed. Competencies and requirements for licensure in Texas are explained.
