ASQ Certifications

These classes prepare participants for the American Society for Quality certification examinations. ASQ certifications are given for designated specialties and provide recipients with national recognition for professional expertise and the mastery of a prescribed body of knowledge. Books are purchased separately at the ACC Eastview bookstore, 512.927.1619. Prerequisites: Contact the ASQ Education Chair for questions about the program. BMGT 2031 Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) Certification (50.0 hours/$298.00/$50.00 Lab)
This 48-hour course that prepares students for the American Society for Quality (ASQ) Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) Certification. The course is a refresher study of the body of knowledge for the CMQ/OE. Topics include leadership skills, strategic planning and deployment, management elements and methods, quality management tools, and customer focused organizations. The student will focus on the theory and application of these quality management skills by studying the course materials and taking and reviewing sample exams containing questions similar to those on the actual CMQ/OE exam. This examination is unique in that it contains 2 constructed response questions. The student will be taught how to analyze and properly answer this type of examination question. This 60-hour course prepares students for the American Society for Quality (ASQ) "Six Sigma Black Belt" certification. The course is a refresher study of the Body of Knowledge for the Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Topics include enterprise-wide deployment, business process management, project management, six sigma improvement methodology and tools (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), lean enterprise, and design for six sigma. The student will focus on the theory and application of these six sigma skills by studying the course materials and taking and reviewing sample exams containing questions similar to those on the actual CSSBB exam. This course is a refresher study of the Body of Knowledge for the Certified Six Sigma Green Belt. Topics include business process, quality management techniques, project management, DMAIC methodology, statistical applications and methods, design of experiments, lean enterprise, and design for six sigma. The student will focus on the methodology and application of these Green Belt skills by studying the assigned materials and taking sample exams containing questions similar to those on the actual CSSGB exam. QCTC 1008 Certified Quality Technician/Certified Mechanical Inspector: ASQ Certifications (40.0 hours/$250.00/$50.00 Lab)
This 40-hour course prepares students for the American Society for Quality (ASQ) "Quality Technician" or "Mechanical Inspector" certification. The course is a refresher study of the body of knowledge for these quality disciplines. Topics include quality concepts and tools, statistical and technical mathematical techniques, metrology and calibration, inspection and test, quality audits, and quality improvement methodologies. The course will cover materials in both certification areas since there is a large amount of overlapping materials between the two bodies of knowledge. The student will focus on the theory and application of these skills by studying the course materials and taking and reviewing sample exams containing questions similar to those on the actual CQT or CMI exam. QCTC 1041 Certified Quality Auditor: ASQ Certifications (48.0 hours/$298.00/$50.00 Lab)
This course is a refresher study of the body of knowledge for the Certified Quality Auditor. Topics include ethics, audit preparation, audit performance, audit reporting, corrective action follow-up and closure, audit program management and general knowledge skills. General knowledge skills include auditing basics, basic skills and tools and techniques. Tools and techniques covered include the use of checklists, sampling theory, flow charts, pattern/trend analysis, root cause analysis, cause and effect diagrams, Pareto charts, histograms, descriptive statistics, control chart preparation and process capability interpretation. The student will focus on the theory and application of these quality auditing skills by studying the assigned materials and taking sample exams containing questions similar to those on the actual CQA exam. These sample exams and their answers will be reviewed in class and for homework to increase the student's ability to understand and correctly answer exam questions.
