PHOTOGRAPHY

Students MUST furnish a digital camera capable of capturing in the RAW format. Students planning to continue in program beyond 1311 should invest in a digital camera with interchangeable lenses. Classes require outside of class assignments. Prerequisites and Corequisites enforced.

PHTC 1311 Fundamentals of Photography {Beginning Digital Photo Class} Students MUST furnish a digital camera capable of capturing in the RAW format with some manual controls.If you are planning to continue in the program beyond 1311 you should invest in a digital camera with interchangable lenses. PHTC 1311 Fundamentals of Photography
An introduction to camera operation and image production, composition, supplemental lighting, and use of exposure meters and filters. Student may be required to use outside commercial lab services. Students must furnish an approved adjustable digital camera capable of capturing in the Camera Raw format. Prerequisite: Corequisites: PHTC 1400.

PHTC 1313 History of Photography
A historical survey of the technical and aesthetic development of photography. Topics include the beginnings of the medium, inventors, development of photographic equipment, styles of the creative masters, aesthetic themes, and the social impact of photography.

PHTC 1340 Photographic Retouching I
Using a variety of retouching techniques to enhance prints and negatives. Includes restoration and coloration. Requires visual acuity, accurate color perception, and good eye/hand coordination. Prerequisite: PHTC 2349.

PHTC 1341 Color Photography I
Examination of color theory as it applies to photography. Emphasis on color concepts and the intricacies of seeing and photographing in color along with digital asset management. Requires visual acuity, accurate color perception, and good eye/hand coordination. Prerequisite: PHTC 1400 and PHTC 1311. Corequisites: PHTC 2301.

PHTC 1400 Photo Digital Imaging I
Computer and software instruction for electronic imaging. Includes color, gray scale, image conversion, presentation, and ethics. Students must have basic computer knowledge and an understanding of file management. Requires visual acuity, accurate color perception, and good eye/hand coordination. Class is taught on the Macintosh platform. Prerequisite: Corequisites: PHTC 1311 or with department approval.

PHTC 2271 Advanced Imaging Lab
Refined skill development in advanced color and black and white image production. Requires visual acuity, accurate color perception, and good eye/hand coordination. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: PHTC 1341 and PHTC 2349. Corequisites: Must be taken concurrently with advanced level camera course or may be taken as a stand alone class with department approval.

PHTC 2301 Intermediate Photography
Continuation of Fundamentals of Photography. Emphasizes social, portrait, studio, fashion, theatrical, publicity, and event photography. Student will work both in the studio and on location. Student must provide a Digital Camera capable of capturing in the RAW format. Prerequisite: PHTC 1311 and PHTC 1400. Corequisites: PHTC 1341.

PHTC 2331 Architectural Photography
Study of the equipment, processes, and procedures necessary for the photography of building exteriors and interiors, dusk/night and night architectural landscapes, and construction progress. Prerequisite: PHTC 2301. Corequisites: PHTC 2271 or student may use an outside lab to complete assignments.

PHTC 2341 Color Photography II
Skill development in advanced color image production. Emphasis on use of specialized color techniques and applications. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: PHTC 1340. Requires visual acuity, accurate color perception, and good eye/hand coordination.

PHTC 2342 Fashion Photography
Fashion photography in terms of trends and techniques included in studio and location work. Emphasizes model direction and lighting control. May be repeated for credit. Offered in the Summer. Prerequisite: PHTC 1345 or PHTC 1353. Corequisites: PHTC 2271 or the student may use an outside lab to complete assignments.

PHTC 2343 Portfolio Development
A culmination experience for the evaluation of the student's photographic competencies. Includes association with a professional photographic organization, skills in resume creation, completion of portfolio, professional self-presentation, comprehensive exam, and seminars in areas of photographic interest. May not be used for laboratory support for other advanced courses. Offered in the Summer. Prerequisite: 21 hours in photography.

PHTC 2349 Photo Digital Imaging II
Continued skill development in the use of the computer and software for photographic manipulation and output. Prerequisite: PHTC 1400.

PHTC 2371 Wedding Photography
Introduction to the processes and concepts of photographing a wedding, to include: booking, photographing, and post-production. Student must have a DSLR camera. Offered in Summer. Student will need to be able to work on Saturdays in addition to class time. Prerequisite: PHTC 1453 and PHTC 1340. Corequisites: PHTC 2271.
