Important information for Flex Entry Computer Courses
TBA = Flex-Entry Computer Courses
Students may attend any of the classes listed with TBA during these hours of operation at EVC 8321.
9:00 am-8:30 pm Monday-Thursday
10:00 am – 4:00 pm Friday and Saturday
Flex Entry Computer Courses are traditional courses offered in a non-traditional setting. There are no structured lectures or demonstrations. There is no required attendance other than taking exams in 8321 at Eastview Campus. All exams are administered by faculty or lab tech in room 8321 at EVC ONLY. These courses may be completed in less than 16 weeks.
Orientation for Flex Entry Computer Courses
• SESSION 1 – Sat, Aug. 21, 11:00 am OR Mon., Aug. 23, 6:30 pm
• SESSION 2 – Mon. Sept. 20, 6:30 pm
• SESSION 3 – Mon. Oct. 18, 6:30 pm
Orientation is REQUIRED for all students who have never taken a flex entry course. Students are also REQUIRED to attend orientation to take a timed writing for any flex entry course that lists a minimum keyboarding speed as a prerequisite. Student guides and course materials will be distributed for all flex entry courses during orientation. ALL flex orientations are at the Eastview Campus room 8321.
Registration for Flex Entry Computer Courses
Students may register for Flex Entry courses during regular registration or on the following dates:
• SESSION 1 – See registration schedule
• SESSION 2 – August 27 – September 16
• SESSION 3 – September 24 – October 14

FOR STUDENTS REGISTERING FOR SESSIONS 2 and 3, PLEASE NOTE THAT ACC COMPUTER LABS WILL BE CLOSED BETWEEN FALL AND SPRING SEMESTERS FROM DECEMBER 13, 2010 – JANUARY 18, 2011, AND FROM MARCH 14 – MARCH 20, 2011, FOR SPRING BREAK.

POFT 1127 Introduction to Keyboarding
Skill development in keyboarding with emphasis on alphabet, number, and symbol keys by touch. Skills can be applied to computers, typewriters, and other equipment with keyboards. Emphasis on acceptable speed and accuracy. May be repeated with instructor approval.
POFI 1204 Computer Fundamentals: MS Windows/Outlook
Computer applications specific to business-related software. Emphasizes the concurrent development of office skills and computer knowledge. This skill development specifically includes MS Windows and Outlook. This course covers the required skill sets on the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) specialist-level exam for Outlook. Formerly known as POFI 1240--Computer Applications II: MS Windows/Outlook. Prerequisite: Keyboarding skill.
POFT 1231 Business Machine Applications -- Data Entry
Skill development in the operation of machines used in a business environment. Emphasis on the development of skills in using computer keypad, electronic calculators and other office machines. Coursework consists of skill development in ten-keypad on the computer and data entry applications. Internet project will be assigned to explore multi-task business equipment. Prerequisite: Ability to key 30 wpm.
POFT 1301 Business English
Introduction to a practical application of basic language usage skills with emphasis on fundamentals of writing and editing for business. Access to business communications web site and on-line study guide helps students develop their English skills with additional emphasis on spelling and vocabulary. Prerequisite: Reading from ACC Assessment with a score of 81 or TASP/THEA with a scoe of 230.
POFM 1302 Medical Software Applications
Medical software applications for the management and operation of health care information systems for various types of medical facilities. Prerequisite: Basic keyboarding and computer skills.
ITSW 1310 Introduction to Presentation Graphics Software -- PowerPoint
Instruction in the utilization of presentation software to produce multimedia presentations. Graphics, text, sound, animation and/or video may be used in presentation development. This course covers the required skill sets on the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) specialist level exam. Prerequisite: Introduction to a computer application course or equivalent and 30 wpm.
POFT 1321 Business Math
Instruction in the fundamentals of business mathematics including analytical and problem-solving skills for critical thinking in business applications. Prerequisite: Students must have successfully completed MATD 0330 or score 33 on ACC Compass Math.
POFI 1371 Access
A course which provides instruction and business applications for designing, updating, and managing a database using Microsoft Access. Instruction on creating reports and forms and integrating applications is also included. This course covers the required skill sets on the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) specialist level exam. Prerequisite: Introduction to computer application course or equivalent and 30 wpm.
POFI 1449 Spreadsheets -- Excel
Spreadsheet software for business applications. Specific instructions for skill development in the use of Excel. Topics include worksheet creation and manipulation functions, templates, macro programming database functions, data-table features, and graphics. This course covers the required skill sets on the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) specialist level exam. Prerequisite: Introduction to a computer application course or equivalent and ability to key 30 wpm.
POFT 2203 Speed and Accuracy Building
Review, correct, improve, and/or perfect touch keyboarding techniques for the purpose of increasing speed and improving accuracy. Prerequisite: The ability to key 45 wpm.
POFI 2301 Word Processing: MS Word I
Word processing software focusing on business applications, such as memos, letters, tables, reports, and newsletters. This skill development specifically emphasizes use of MS Word. This course covers the required skill sets on the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) specialist-level exam for Word. Formerly known as POFT 1329-Keyboarding and Document Formatting--MS Word I. Prerequisite: Ability to key 30 wpm on 5 minute timing.
POFI 2340 Advanced Word Processing: MS Word II
Advanced techniques in merging, macros, graphics, and desktop publishing. Includes extensive formatting for technical documents. Emphasis on business applications. This skill development specifically includes MS Word. This course covers the required skill sets on the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) expert-level exam for Word. Formerly known as POFI 2301--Word Processing: MS Word II. Prerequisite: POFI 2301 or equivalent. Ability to key 35 wpm.
