GEOG 1301 Introduction to Physical Geography
This course introduces the student to an area of study that brings together and interrelates the important elements of the physical environment of humans. The nature and characteristics of the physical environment, their development and distribution are emphasized.
GEOG 1302 Introduction to Cultural Geography
This course explores how humans create "places" through culture and their adaptation to the physical environment. Formal and functional aspects of spatial decision making are stressed.
GEOG 1303 World and Regional Geography
This course focuses on the culture and physical environments of the world's geographic regions. It is both a survey course and an introduction to the discipline of geography.
GEOG 2470 Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is a computer-based tool that uses spatial (geographic) data to analyze and solve real-world problems. This course is designed to introduce the student to the basic principles and techniques of GIS. The lab material will emphasize GIS data collection, entry, storage, analysis, and output using ArcGIS.
GEOG 2471 GIS II
Advanced GIS is designed for the student who wants to pursue a career in GIS. The course will focus on sophisticated spatial analyses such as density mapping, least-cost analysis, map algebra, line-of-sight analysis, and spatial modeling using ESRI's Spatial Analyst and 3-D Analyst extensions. The course also will explore geodatabases, as well as planning, designing, and implementing a scalable, enterprise-wide GIS. Prerequisite: GEOG 2470.
