FIRE PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY
Students interested in earning Firefighter Certification should take FIRS courses. Basic Firefighter Certification (Firefighter I-VII) is offered in the Spring and Fall semesters. For information about the application process, go to www.austincc.edu/fireprot. Application deadlines: Fall Semester - early May; Spring Semester - late October. For further information contact the Academy at 512-223-9760. FIRT courses are required to earn the AAS degree.

FIRT 1338 Fire Protection Systems
Design and operation of fire detection and alarm systems, heat and smoke control systems, special protection and sprinkler systems, water supply for fire protection, and portable fire extinguishers. Students pursing an AAS in Fire Protection must have an approved degree plan with department chair.
FIRT 2305 Fire Instructor I
Preparation of fire and emergency services personnel to deliver instruction from a prepared lesson plan. Includes the use of instructional aids and evaluation instruments to meet the Texas Commission on Fire Protection requirements for Fire Instructor I certification. Students pursuing an AAS in Fire Protection must have an approved degree plan with Department Chair.
FIRT 2307 Fire Instructor II
Development of individual lesson plans for a specific topic including learning objectives, instructional aids, and evaluation instruments. Includes techniques for supervision and coordination of activities of other instructors to meet Texas Commission on Fire Protection requirements for Fire Instructor II certification. Students pursing an AAS in Fire Protection must have an approved degree plan with Department Chair. Prerequisite: FIRT 2305.
FIRT 2333 Fire and Arson Investigation II
Continuation of Fire and Arson Investigation I. Topics include reports, courtroom demeanor, and expert witnesses. Students pursing an AAS in Fire Protection must have an approved degree plan with department chair. Prerequisite: FIRT 1303.
