RNSG 1105 Nursing Skills I
Study of the concepts and principles essential for demonstrating competence in the performance of nursing procedures. Topics include knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.
RNSG 1160 Clinical--Nursing--Registered Nurse Training: Foundations of Nursing
A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Application of the theories, concepts and knowledge base presented in RNSG 1413 at a specific clinical site or sites. Prerequisite: Entry into the AD Nursing Program. Corequisites: RNSG 1413.
RNSG 1161 Clinical--Nursing--Registered Nurse Training I
A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Application of the theories, concepts and knowledge base presented in RNSG 1341 at a specific clinical site or sites. Prerequisite: RNSG 1413 and RNSG 1160. Corequisite: RNSG 1341.
RNSG 1247 Concepts of Clinical Decision Making
Integration of previous knowledge and skills into the continued development of the professional nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession. Emphasis on clinical decision-making for clients in medical-surgical settings experiencing health problems involving gastrointestinal disorders, endocrine and metabolic disorders, reproductive and sexual disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, eye-ear-nose-throat disorders and integumentary disorders. Discussion of knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisite: RNSG 1443, RNSG 1260, RNSG 2213, RNSG 2160, PSYC 2314 and SPCH 1311. Corequisites: RNSG 2161.
RNSG 1260 Clinical--Nursing--Registered Nurse Training II
A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Prerequisite: RNSG 1341 and RNSG 1161. Corequisites: RNSG 1443.
RNSG 1262 Clinical--Nursing--Registered Nurse Training: Childbearing/Childrearing Family Clinical
A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Application of the theories, concepts and knowledge base presented in RNSG 1412 Nursing Care of the Childbearing/Childrearing Family at a specific site or sites. Prerequisite: RNSG 1443, RNSG 1362, PSYC 2314, SPCH 1311* (*or equivalent). Corequisites: RNSG 1412.
RNSG 1341 Common Concepts in Adult Health
Study of the general principles of caring for selected adult clients and families in structured settings with common medical-surgical health care needs related to each body system. Emphasis on knowledge judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisite: RNSG 1413 and RNSG 1160. Corequisites: RNSG 1161.
RNSG 1412 Nursing Care of the Childbearing and Childrearing Family
Study of the concepts related to the provision of nursing care for childbearing and childrearing families; application of systematic problem-solving processes and critical thinking skills, including a focus on the childbearing family during preconception, prenatal, antipartum, neonatal, and postpartum periods and the childrearing family from birth to adolescence; and competency in knowledge, judgment, skill, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework, pediatric settings; and utilize a systematic problem-solving approach and critical thinking skills when providing nursing care for the childbearing and childrearing family. Prerequisite: RNSG 1443, RNSG 1362, PSYC 2314 and SPCH 1311. Corequisites: RNSG 1262.
RNSG 1413 Foundations for Nursing Practice
Introduction to the role of the professional nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of profession. Topics include but are not limited to the fundamental concepts of nursing practice, history of professional nursing, a systematic framework for decision-making, mechanisms of disease, the needs and problems that nurses help patients manage, and basic psychomotor skills. Emphasis on knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisite: BIOL 2304, BIOL 2101, BIOL 2305, BIOL 2102, MATH 1332, HPRS 2300, BIOL 2420, and RNSG 1105. Corequisites: RNSG 1160.
RNSG 1443 Complex Concepts of Adult Health
Integration of previous knowledge and skills related to common adult health needs into the continued development of the professional nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession in the care of adult clients/families in structured health care settings with complex medical-surgical health care needs associated with each body system Emphasis on knowledge, judgments, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisite: RNSG 1341, RNSG 1161, and PSYC 2301. Corequisites: RNSG 1362.
RNSG 1463 Clinical--Nursing--Registered Nurse Training: Articulating Students II
A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Application of the theories, concepts and knowledge base presented in RNSG 1542 in a specific clinical site or sites. Prerequisite: RNSG 1263, RNSG 1517, RNSG 1140, and RNSG 1170. Corequisites: RNSG 1542.
RNSG 1542 Concepts of Nursing Practice II for Articulating Students
Provides the articulating student the opportunity to examine the roles of the associate degree nurse and apply systematic problem solving processes and critical thinking skills; focuses on the utilization of leadership and management skills in the provision of care to small groups of adult clients and their families in selected settings and competency in knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisite: RNSG 1517, RNSG 1263, RNSG 1140, and RNSG 1170. Corequisites: RNSG 1463.
RNSG 2130 Professional Nursing Review and Licensure Preparation
Review of concepts required for licensure examination and entry into the practice of professional nursing. Includes appication of National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) test plan, assessment of knowledge deficits, and remediation. This course lends itself to either a blocked or integrated approach. Prerequisite: RNSG 1412, RNSG 1262, RNSG 1247, and RNSG 2161 (or RNSG 1542 and RNSG 1463).
RNSG 2160 Clinical--Nursing--Registered Nurse Training: Mental Health
A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Application of the theories, concepts and knowledge base presented in RNSG 2213 Mental Health Nursing at a specified clinical site or sites. Prerequisite: Prerequisites: RNSG 1341 and RNSG 1161. Corequisite: RNSG 2213.
RNSG 2161 Clinical - Nursing - Registered Nurse Training III
A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Application of the theories, concepts and knowledge base presented in RNSG 1247 Concepts of Clinical Decision Making in a specific clinical site or sites. Prerequisite: RNSG 1443, RNSG 1260, RNSG 2213, and RNSG 2160. Corequisite: RNSG 1247.
RNSG 2213 Mental Health Nursing
Principles and concepts of mental health, psychopathology, and treatment modalities related to the nursing care of clients and their families. Uses therapeutic communication; utilizes critical thinking skills and a systematic problem-solving process as a framework for providing care to clients and families experiencing mental health problems; and explains the roles of the associate degree nurse in caring for clients and families experiencing mental health problems. Prerequisite: RNSG 1341, RNSG 1161, and PSYC 2301. Corequisites: RNSG 2160.
RNSG 2221 Management of Client Care
Exploration of leadership and management principles applicable to the role of the nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession. Includes application of knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisite: RNSG 1412, RNSG 1262, RNSG 1247, RNSG 2161, and ENGL 1301.
RNSG 2362 Clinical--Nursing--Registered Nurse Training IV
A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Application of the theories, concepts and knowledge base presented in RNSG 2432 Enhanced Concepts of Adult Health at a specific clinical site or sites. Prerequisite: RNSG 1412, RNSG 1262, RNSG 1247, and RNSG 2161. Corequisites: RNSG 2432.
RNSG 2432 Enhanced Concepts of Adult Health I
Enhanced concepts and skills for developing professional competencies in complicated nursing care situations involving adult clients/families with multiple body system problems. Emphasizes critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and determining legal/ethical values for optimization of client care in intermediate and acute care settings. Prerequisite: RNSG 1412, RNSG 1262, RNSG 1247, and RNSG 2161. Corequisites: RNSG 2362.
