FIRE PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY
Students interested in earning Firefighter Certification should take FIRS courses. Basic Firefighter Certification (Firefighter I-VII) is offered in the Spring and Fall semesters. For information about the application process, go to www.austincc.edu/fireprot. Application deadlines: Fall Semester - early May; Spring Semester - late October. For further information contact the Academy at 512-223-9760. FIRT courses are required to earn the AAS degree.

Basic fire and arson investigation practices. Emphasis on fire behavior principles related to fire cause and origin determination. In-depth study of basic fire and arson investigation practices. FIRT 1307 Fire Prevention Codes and Inspections
Local building and fire prevention codes. Fire prevention inspections, practices, and procedures. Study of local building and fire prevention codes. Emphasis on fire prevention inspections, practices, and procedures. Students pursuing an AAS in Fire Protection must have an approved degree plan with department chair.
FIRT 1309 Fire Administration I
Introduction to the organization and management of a fire department and the relationship of government agencies to the fire service. Emphasis on fire service leadership from the perspective of the company officer. Students pursing an AAS in Fire Protection must have an approved degree plan with department chair.
FIRT 1353 Legal Aspects of Fire Protection
Study of the rights, duties, liability concerns, and responsibilities of public fire protection agencies while performing assigned duties. Students pursing an AAS in Fire Protection must have an approved degree plan with department chair.
FIRT 2309 Firefighting Strategies and Tactics I
Analysis of the nature of fire problems and selection of initial strategies and tactics including an in-depth study of efficient and effective use of manpower and equipment to mitigate the emergency. Students pursuing an AAS in Fire Protection must have an approved degree plan with Department Chair.
