DEVW 0130 Writing Skills II
Exit-level course. Writing with an emphasis on different methods of developing compositions. Advanced review of grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and words often confused. Emphasis on planning, writing, and revising of assignments. Individualized and group instruction in a classroom or workshop setting.
Writing Skills II Learning Community COMP 4.0 - This course is also offered combined with ENGL 1301, English Composition I. Students can fulfill their TSI writing requirement and have an opportunity to earn college credit in ENGL 1301. This course does satisfy TSI requirement.
This course is not for college-level credit. Prerequisite: TSI complete in Reading AND Grade of B or better in DEVW 0320 or Written Essay 5 and one of the following writing objective scores: COMPASS 51-58; CPT 76-79; ASSET 38-39. If an essay score is not available, the student is not eligible to enroll.
DEVW 0170 Fundamentals of Writing Lab
Individualized and group setting providing additional practice and explanation of writing skills. This course does not satisfy TSI requirements.
This course is not for college-level credit.
DEVW 0231 Grammar and Usage
Exit-level course. This course is offered as an alternative to retaking DEVW 0330 for those who have mastered the basics of organizing and developing an essay but lack proficiency in language usage, editing, and/or proofreading. The course would focus on language production in the context of essay writing, but the emphasis will be placed on grammar and usage, punctuation, etc. Individualized and group instruction in a classroom or workshop setting. This course does satisfy the TSI requirement.
This course is not for college-level credit. Prerequisite: TSI complete in Reading AND Grade of B or better in DEVW 0320 or Grade of Incomplete (IP) in DEVW 0330 or Written Essay 5 and one of the following writing objective scores: COMPASS 51-58; CPT 76-79; ASSET 38-39. If an essay score is not available, the student is not eligible to enroll.
DEVW 0310 Writing Fundamentals
Focuses on the basic errors of grammar, but includes composition of complete sentences, paragraphs, and simple essays as well. Attention paid to correct punctuation and spelling. Individualized and group instruction in a classroom or workshop setting. A one-hour mandatory lab is required. Repeatable for credit.
Learning Community Fundamentals Academic Triangle - DEVW 0310 Writing Fundamentals is also offered combined with DEVR 0300 Reading Fundamentals and DSSK 0310 Basic Study Skills. Classes work together so students can appreciate the relationship between reading and writing. This course does satisfy TSI requirements.
This course is not for college-level credit. Prerequisite: Students must have passed DEVR 0300 Reading Fundamentals or placed into DEVR 0310, Reading Skills Improvement or higher. Written Essay 2 or 3 and any writing objective score AND a reading score higher than DEVR 0300 Reading Fundamentals. If an essay score is not available, use one of the following writing objective scores: COMPASS 11-39; CPT 0-62; ASSET 29-34.
DEVW 0320 Writing Skills I
A review of grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and words often confused. Introduction to writing paragraphs and essays. Emphasis on planning, writing, and revising of assignments. Individualized and group instruction in a classroom or workshop setting.
Writing Skills I Learning Community Intersections - DEVW 0320 Writing Skills I is also offered combined with MATD 0330 Basic Math Skills and DSSK 0210 Basic Study Skills. Classes work together so students can gain a deeper understanding of the similarities of these two languages. This course does satisfy TSI requirements.
Writing Skills I Learning Community Skills I Academic Triangle - DEVW 0320 Writing Skills I is also offered combined with DEVR 0310 Reading Skills Improvement and DSSK 0320 Basic Study Skills. Classes work together so students can appreciate the relationship between reading and writing. This course does satisfy TSI requirements.
This course is not for college-level credit. Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in DEVW 0310 or placement by Written Essay 4 and any writing objective score OR Written Essay 5 and one of the following writing objective scores: COMPASS 0-43; CPT 0-63; ASSET 0-35. If an essay score is not available, use one of the following writing objective scores: COMPASS 40-49; CPT 63-72; ASSET 35-38.
DEVW 0330 Writing Skills II
Exit-level course. Writing with an emphasis on different methods of developing compositions. Advanced review of grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and words often confused. Emphasis on planning, writing, and revising of assignments. Individualized and group instruction in a classroom or workshop setting. A modified course is offered in a one hour (DEVW 0130) and two hour (DEVW 0230) format. This course does satisfy the TSI requirement.
This course is not for college-level credit. Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in DEVW 0320 or Written Essay 5 and one of the following writing objective scores: COMPASS 44-58; CPT 64-79; ASSET 36-39. If an essay score is not available, use one of the following writing objective scores: COMPASS 50-81; CPT, 73-93; ASSET 39-45.
