Course Descriptions All Courses 
SPAN 0041 Spanish Lab
An elective lab course for students desiring improvement of listening, writing, reading, or speaking skills in Spanish for a course in which they are enrolled. Content to come from text, workbook, and recordings required in the Spanish course and any additional materials provided by the lab instructor. Spanish I Lab -- For students in Spanish 1511, a course in which they are enrolled. Spanish II and III Lab -- For students in Spanish 1512 or Spanish 2311, a course in which they are enrolled. This course is not for college-level credit.

SPAN 1300 Spanish Conversation
The primary objective of the course is to develop the student's competency in communicating through the spoken medium. Class time will be spent in simple conversation and discussion of material read outside of class. Emphasis on idiomatic expressions used in daily speech, pronunciation, and vocabulary building. Prerequisite: SPAN 1511 or equivalent, or instructor approval.

SPAN 1511 Spanish I
Study of fundamentals of Spanish: conversation, basic writing, listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary building, grammar, and culture. Spanish I for Native Speakers - Introductory course for students who possess a spoken knowledge of Southwestern U.S. Spanish and who wish to develop competency in reading and writing standard Spanish. Through readings and compositions, the student will be introduced to the conventions of standard Spanish grammar and spelling. SPAN 1512 Spanish II
Continuation of SPAN 1511 with more advanced conversation, basic writing, listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary building, grammar, and culture. Spanish II for Native Speakers - Continuation of SPAN 1511 for Native Speakers. Through readings and compositions, the students will continue to develop competency in reading and writing standard Spanish. Prerequisite: Students must have completed a first semester college Spanish course of at least four semester hours with a grade of C or better, or have equivalent credit by examination to enroll in SPAN 1512.

SPAN 2311 Spanish III
Advanced Spanish grammar, directed composition, conversation, and discussion of culture based on readings. Class conducted largely in Spanish. Prerequisite: Students must have completed a second semester college Spanish course of at least four semester hours with a grade of C or better, or have equivalent credit by examination to enroll in SPAN 2311.

SPAN 2312 Spanish IV
Continuation of SPAN 2311. Prerequisite: SPAN 2311 with a grade of C or better, or equivalent.
