OTHA 1161 Clinical - Occupational Therapist Assistant
A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry. Prerequisite: OTHA 2302 and OTHA 2204. Corequisite: OTHA 2305 and OTHA 2331.

OTHA 1305 Principles of Occupational Therapy
Introduction to occupational therapy including the historical development and philosophy. Emphasis on the roles of the occupational therapy assistant. Topics include occupation in daily life; education and functions; occupational therapy personnel; current health care environment; and moral, legal, and ethical issues. Offered in Fall. Prerequisite: Admission to program.

OTHA 1409 Human Structure and Function in Occupational Therapy
Study of the biomechanics of human motion. Emphasis on the musculoskeletal system including skeletal structure, muscles and nerves, and biomechanical assessment procedures. Prerequisite: BIOL 2404.

OTHA 2305 Therapeutic Interventions II
Continuation of Therapeutic Interventions I. Emphasis on current rehabilitative interventions. Prerequisite: OTHA 1319. Corequisite: OTHA 2331 and OTHA 1161.

OTHA 2309 Mental Health in Occupational Therapy
Study of the promotion of mental health through occupational therapy. Emphasis on theory and intervention strategies to enhance psychosocial function. Offered in Spring. Prerequisite: OTHA 2302 and SCWK 2331.

OTHA 2331 Physical Function in Occupational Therapy
Study of physical function to promote occupational performance. Includes frames of reference, evaluation tools, intervention strategies, and consumer education. Includes a focus on the developmental continuum and application of rehabilitation techniques. Prerequisite: OTHA 2302, OTHA 1319, and OTHA 2204. Corequisite: OTHA 1161 and OTHA 2305.
