DEVW 0403 Fundamentals of Writing
Focuses on the basic errors of grammar, but includes composition of complete sentences, paragraphs, and simple essays as well. Attention paid to correct punctuation and spelling. Individualized and group instruction in a classroom or workshop setting. A modified course is offered in a one hour (DEVW 0401) and two hour (DEVW 0402) format. A one-hour mandatory lab is required. Repeatable for credit. Students cannot co-enroll in DEVW 0401 or DEVW 0402 and DEVRR 0303. This course is not for college-level credit. Learning Community Fundamentals Academic Triangle DEVW 0403, Fundamentals of Writing, is also offered combined with DEVR 0303, Fundamentals of Reading and DSSK 0013, Basic Study Skills. Classes work together so students can appreciate the relationship between reading and writing. Prerequisite: Students must have passed DEVR 0303, Fundamentals of Reading or placed into DEVR 1303, Reading Skills I or higher before enrolling in DEVW 0401, DEVW 0402, or DEVW 0403.

DEVW 1403 Writing Skills I
A review of grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and words often confused. Introduction to writing paragraphs and essays. Emphasis on planning, writing, and revising of assignments. Individualized and group instruction in a classroom or workshop setting. A modified course is offered in a one hour (DEVW 1401) and two hour (DEVW 1402) format. Writing Skills I Learning Community Intersections -DEVW 1403, Writing Skills I, is also offered combined with MATD 0330, Basic Math Skills and DSSK 0012, Basic Study Skills. Classes work together so students can gain a deeper understanding of the similarities of these two languages. Writing Skills I Learning Community Skills I Academic Triangle - DEVW 1403, Writing Skills I, is also offered combined with DEVR 1303, Reading Skills I and DSSK 1013, Basic Study Skills. Classes work together so students can appreciate the relationship between reading and writing. Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in DEVW 0403 or placement by Written Essay 4 and any writing objective score OR Written Essay 5 and one of the following writing objective scores: COMPASS 0-43; CPT 0-63; ASSET 0-35. If an essay score is not available, use one of the following writing objective scores: COMPASS 40-49; CPT 63-72; ASSET 35-38.

DEVW 1411 Writing Skills II
Writing with an emphasis on different methods of developing compositions. Advanced review of grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and words often confused. Emphasis on planning, writing, and revising of assignments. Individualized and group instruction in a classroom or workshop setting. Writing Skills II Learning Community COMP 4.0 - This course is also offered combined with ENGL 1301, English Composition I. Students can fulfill their TSI writing requirement and have an opportunity to earn college credit in ENGL 1301. Prerequisite: TSI complete in Reading AND Grade of B or better in DEVW 1403 or Written Essay 5 and one of the following writing objective scores: COMPASS 51-58; CPT 76-79; ASSET 38-39. If an essay score is not available, the student is not eligible to enroll.

DEVW 1413 Writing Skills II

Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in DEVW 1403 or one of the following scores in writing: COMPASS Writing Test 59-81; CPT Writing Test 73-85; ASSET Writing Test 39-45.
