ENGL 2307 Creative Writing
Instruction in literary writing: prose, poetry, screenwriting and drama. Topics may vary. Possible markets for creative writing to be discussed.
Screenwriting--Students study and analyze the process of writing for film by examining story concept, theme, characterization, structure, and script formatting, and by creating synopses and treatments. Students write a screenplay.
Play Writing--Students study and analyze the structure of different styles and movements of theater and how it differs from film and other genres of the written word. Students edit and critique plays, and write a one act play or 2 fifteen minute scenes.
Poetry--Instruction in literary writing: poetry. Genre may vary. Possible markets for creative writing to be discussed.
Prose--Instruction in literary writing: prose. Genre may vary. Possible markets for creative writing to be discussed.
Writing Children's Literature--Instruction in literary writing, with focus on writing for children. Topics include studying classic children's books, writing various genres from picture books to chapter books, and understanding the children's book industry.
Prerequisite: ENGL 1301.
ENGL 2308 Advanced Writing Workshop
Continuation of ENGL 2307 with emphasis on literary writing.
Poetry--Continuation of 2307 with emphasis on poetry writing in a seminar setting.
Prose--Continuation of 2307 with emphasis on prose writing in a seminar setting.
Screenwriting --Continuation of ENGL 2307 with an emphasis on screenwriting with an emphasis on editing and analysis in a seminar setting.
Prerequisite: ENGL 1301 and ENGL 2307 or equivalent or instructor approval.
ENGL 2389 Academic Cooperative
An instructional program designed to integrate on-campus study with practical hands-on work experience. In conjunction with class seminars, the individual student will set specific goals and objectives in the study of English language and literature.
