Job Purpose

To dispatch College police officers, monitor alarm systems, and relay information.

Reports To

College Police, Sergeant

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Answers multi-line telephone, emergency numbers, and non-emergency lines.
  2. Monitors video surveillance systems.
  3. Communicates with officers via police radio.
  4. Dispatches police and safety officers to request for service calls.
  5. Monitors fire and security alarms for all campuses.
  6. Obtains and relays information from the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System for person and vehicle information.
  7. Enters data, maintains daily logs, logs citations, and permits.
  8. Assists Police Chief, supervisors, officers, and other law enforcement agencies via computer or telephone with receiving and relaying information.
  9. Assists in maintaining 24/7 communications operations.

Knowledge

Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

Required

  • Texas Penal Code, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Texas Family Code, Texas Education Code, Texas Motor Vehicle Code, and Texas and National Crime Information Centers (TCIC/NCIC) requirements.
  • Current principles and practices related to safety and security.

Computer Skills

Required

  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds
  • Subject to extended periods of intense concentration in listening to radio calls and monitoring alarms.
  • Subject to sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Work is routinely performed in office environments

Work Experience

Required

  • One year work experience in telecommunications or equivalent work experience and training that provides the required knowledge and skills.

Preferred

  • Two years telecommunications experience.

Education

Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

    • Telecommunication License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

    • Past supervisors may be interviewed for a reference.

    • Knowledge of College's and College Police Department policies, procedures, and standard operating practices.
