DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES AND TASKS
Reports to the Austin Community College Fire Academy Director. Responsible for instructing students in accordance with College policies and procedures and in a team-based instructional environment in a classroom, laboratory, and fire ground training settings. Maintaining professional competence and certifications; and participating in professional development activities and departmental meetings. Faculty assignments may include days, a few evenings, and some weekends at the Austin Fire Department (AFD) Academy and nearby areas. Faculty responsibilities include skills development and presentation in laboratory, and fire ground training settings; grading of student assignments and documentation; entry of student and performance data into computerized tracking system; and other duties as assigned. Faculty assignments will focus on secondary levels of instruction (multiple requirements for skill training). Must posses and maintain a current Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Field Examiner Certification.

FACULTY QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Required: Must have five years of fire fighting experience and possess comprehensive knowledge of basic and advanced fire fighting techniques and skills at state and national levels. Must also be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, the safe and essential strategy and tactics associated with fire fighting. Must demonstrate creativity and innovation in the field, service in the profession and or community, sensitivity to and knowledge of a diverse student body, and understanding of the comprehensive mission and philosophy of community colleges. Effective planning, organizational communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes good relations with students, co-workers, academy staff, and administration. Must be capable of using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software systems.
Required: Certified Fire Instructor II and Field Examiner by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Required: Currently enrolled and working towards an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Medical, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or other related fields.
Preferred: Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Medical, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or other related fields.
