Do you have a desire to be your own boss? If so, you can become an Event Planner! This course teaches students how to work with clients and help make their vision a reality by learning how to work with vendors, plan, organize, and build a budget for any event. This "101" course will train you to organize everything from small social events, to meetings and conferences. Become an Event Planner and soon you too will be a part of it all! | Essential for both private meeting and event planners or those specializing as a recreation venue planner, this course offers a stepping stone to understanding the scope, characteristics, entrepreneurial strategies, and management aspects of commercial recreation and tourism. Topics include business start-up strategies, financing, marketing, operations management, and trends. This course is designed to study guest recreation and entertainment including available space requirements, cost of operation, maintenance, layout and design, and direct and indirect benefits. | The meeting and event planning field includes many specialized facets. One area of needed specialized services is convention and group management. This course provides information detailing the scope of the various segments of the convention market. This course will explore individual needs and the methods and techniques to provide better service to conventions and groups, risk management, amenities and concierge services, transportation coordination and other specialized service needs. | PHTX 3002 - Photography and Portfolio Development for Event Planners and Floral Designers | |
| This course is designed specifically for Event Planners / Floral and Interior Design students although the course material is relevant to numerous fields. The emphasis is to enable students to photograph their own work in their respective fields and to develop a portfolio for display to clients. We will begin by covering photography fundamentals such as exposure, composition and lighting. Students will become familiar with the various types of equipment used in digital photography including the digital camera, portable flash equipment, light meters, computers, etc. We will concentrate on giving students practical experience photographing items relevant to the their specific field.. Students will also learn to edit their images using either Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop and print their images using the professional Epson printer line. Finally, students will learn to prepare images for display to prospective clients. Students are encouraged to provide an acceptable adjustable digital SLR, however a few cameras will be available for use in class. | |

This course offers essential, contemporary guidance needed for success in this exciting, expanding industry. Beginning with basic, valuable information about guiding, escorting, and tour planning, the class progresses with discussions on topics such as effective touring, psychology of group behavior, successful itineraries, components of a tour package, tour costing, advertising and promotion, and tour guide qualifications. | This course provides professional-caliber event planning information that explains how to decorate a venue for a special event - from assessing the client's decor needs and objectives, staying within a budget, to designing and decorating events and celebrations, from eight to 8,000 guests. Each student will learn the development of a special event from the conceptual stage through completion through application and actual live events. Emphasis on industry terminology, aesthetics, creation of various types of events, factors to consider when planning a special event, and contingency plans.
