This degree plan is designed to prepare individuals for a career as Health Information Technicians through classroom study and supervised clinical experience. Upon completion of the prescribed curriculum, the student is eligible to apply to take examinations for the American Health Information Management Association certification in Registered Health Information Technology (RHIT).

Professionals holding the RHIT credential are health information technicians who:
Ensure the quality of medical records by verifying their completeness, accuracy, and proper entry into computer systems;
Use computer applications to assemble and analyze patient data for the purpose of improving patient care or controlling costs;
Often specialize in coding diagnoses and procedures in patient records for reimbursement and research.
RHITs also compile and maintain data on cancer patients.

ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGE DOES NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAM. ENROLLMENT IS LIMITED.
Applicants must provide documentation of immunizations at time of application. Students accepted into the program are required to have a physical examination and verify annual tuberculosis status.

In order to meet requirements of clinical agencies, criminal background checks and drug screenings for all Health Sciences students are now required as part of the admissions process.
