EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - BASIC
The Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) program is a certificate program offering college credit, which includes classroom, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. The course provides an introduction to emergency medical care by providing educational modules on medical-legal, roles and responsibilities of the EMT-B, documentation and communication, airway management, patient assessment for medical and trauma patients, obstetrical and gynecological emergencies, childbirth, pediatric emergencies, ambulance operations, hazardous materials and mass casualty.
This class is a one semester course consisting of 144 classroom hours of theory combined with laboratory time for application of practical skills. An additional 64 hours of clinical are scheduled for the completion of the clinical and field experience.
Upon successful completion of the course the students are eligible to that take the National Registry examination for certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic.
Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic class. Division approval is required to register for any of the EMT-B courses. In order to meet requirements of clinical agencies, criminal background checks and drug screenings for all Health Sciences students are now required as part of the admissions process. These checks must be completed through the ACC vendor and the student must wait until directed to complete the process.
