Emergency Medical Services Professions
EMT INTERMEDIATE CERTIFICATE
Certificate
This award combines classroom teaching with supervised clinical and field experience for the emergency medical health professional. Emphasis is placed on patient assessment and initial treatment of the following: respiratory, bleeding and shock, and all types of trauma and burns. The students will also receive information on pharmacology, toxicology, environmental and infectious diseases and all aspects of EMS Systems. Upon completion of all course work for the Intermediate Certificate in Emergency Medical Services Professions, the student is eligible to take the National Registry examination for certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate.
ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGE DOES NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSION TO THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PROFESSIONS PROGRAM AND ENROLLMENT IS LIMITED.
Division approval is required to register for any of the Emergency Medical Services Technology (EMSP) Courses. For information on applying for approval to register for EMSP courses, please visit the department website at www.austincc.edu/health/emsp.
The student must be enrolled in, or have completed, the following listed prerequisites: must hold Texas state certification as an EMT-Basic or eligible to test for National Registry at the EMT Basic Level, must document current competency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and immunity to specific diseases, and will be required to pass a criminal background check before admission into the program will be considered. Students must successfully complete a competency exam that may include didactic and skills assessments prior to admission into the program. Students accepted into the program are required to have a physical examination and must annually verify tuberculosis status.
