DMS 2024 ULTRASOUND I (4-3-3). Students are taught sonographic cross-sectional anatomy as it relates to the abdomen, pelvis, and superficial structures. Normal anatomy and physiology of the abdominal/pelvic cavities, including first trimester pregnancy and endovaginal anatomy, and superficial structures are discussed. Scanning methods are correlated to lecture topics and are demonstrated in the laboratory utilizing the ultrasound training simulator. DMS 2033 SONOGRAPHY CLINICAL LAB (3-0-15). Students are taught basic scanning techniques and protocols within the laboratory setting utilizing the ultrasound training simulator and live ultrasound units. Emphasis is on the sonographic examination of the upper abdomen, normal pelvis, and superficial structures. Students will be oriented to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Department through observational clinical assignments during the final 6 weeks of the semester. DMS 2133 ACOUSTICAL PHYSICS (3-3-0). This course continues DMS 2023 and includes topics such as: ultrasound artifacts and ultrasound instrumentation to include display system components, scan converter, image formation, transducer design and function. Prerequisites: DMS 2033 or approval from the Program Coordinator.
DMS 2134 ULTRASOUND II (4-3-3). This is a continuation of DMS 2024 with emphasis on pathologies and disease states of the abdomen, pelvis, including abnormal first trimester pregnancy, and superficial structures. Scanning techniques/methods are demonstrated and taught in the laboratory utilizing the ultrasound training simulator. DMS 2135 SONOGRAPHY CLINICAL I (5-1-22). Students are assigned to various sonography departments in affiliated clinical agencies for 24 hours per week where they participate in departmental activities and are taught the application of scanning methods/techniques of the upper abdomen, pelvis, and superficial structures under supervision. Normal and pathological case studies are discussed and demonstrated. Insurance: $10 Prerequisites: DMS 2023, DMS 2024, DMS 2033, or approval of the Program Coordinator.
DMS 2213 ADVANCED ACOUSTICAL PHYSICS (3-3-0). This is a continuation of DMS 2133 and includes topics such as: quality assurance/quality control, biological effects of sound, advances in transducer design, and introduction to Doppler principles. Prerequisites: DMS 2133 or approval of the Program Coordinator.
DMS 2224 SONOGRAPHY CLINICAL II (4-1-14). Students are assigned to various sonography departments in affiliated clinical agencies for 24 hours per week during the 11 week summer semester. Focus is on advanced imaging techniques for the upper abdomen, pelvis, superficial structures, endovaginal, and second/third trimester OB studies. Insurance: $10 Prerequisites: DMS 2133, DMS 2134, DMS 2135 or approval of the Program Coordinator.
DMS 2233 ULTRASOUND III (3-2-2). This is a continuation of DMS 2024 and DMS 2134 with emphasis on normal and abnormal maternal/fetal development, sonographic fetal assessment, and fetal anomalies in the second and third trimesters. Scanning methods are discussed and taught in the laboratory utilizing the ultrasound training simulator. Fee: $24 Prerequisites: DMS 2024, DMS 2134, DMS 2135 or approval of the Program Coordinator.
DMS 2303 ADVANCED SONOGRAPHY PRACTICES (3-3-0). Advanced sonographic applications and review of the abdomen, pelvis, fetus, superficial structures, and vascular system are discussed. Imaging methods/techniques in Doppler studies of the extremities and Carotid arteries are taught utilizing the ultrasound training simulator and live ultrasound units. Prerequisites: DMS 2134, DMS 2135, DMS 2233 or approval of the Program Coordinator.
DMS 2306 SONOGRAPHY CLINICAL III (6-1-29). This is a continuation of DMS 2233 with emphasis on developing and enhancing advanced clinical and scanning skills for sonographic examinations of the abdomen, pelvis, gravid uterus, fetus, superficial structures, and peripheral vascular system. Students are assigned to various sonography departments in affiliated clinical agencies for 32 hours per week. Insurance: $10 Prerequisites: DMS 2135, DMS 2233 or approval of the Program Coordinator.
DMS 2313 DOPPLER PHYSICS (3-3-0). This is a continuation of DMS 2023, DMS 2133, and DMS 2213 with emphasis on Doppler principles, color Doppler and vascular Doppler principles; examination of carotid artery and lower extremity venous systems; spectral wave-form analysis; introduction to neonatal head and transcranial techniques. Prerequisites: DMS 2213 or approval of the Program Coordinator.
