Associate of Science

The Associate of Science degree in physics/astronomy provides students with the general education and scientific courses normally taken in the first two years at a four­year college or university. Most astronomy majors at a four­year college first receive an undergraduate major in physics and minor in mathematics before studying astronomy.

+ Prerequisites: See Catalog Descriptions
1 Students should consult with a full-time mathematics instructor to determine if it is necessary to take one or more mathematics courses (such as MTH 1743/1753 or 1764) before taking calculus.
2 Students may select from SPE 1603, SPE 1613, SPE 1623, TCM 1603.
3 students may choose any course in the Humanities/Fine Arts General Education Core (refer to Catalog index).
4 Students who have not had one full year of high school physics should take PHY 1614/1624 before taking PHY 2614: Students with a strong mathematics background may substitute PHY 1653 for PHY 1614 and 1624. All students must complete MTH 1854 before enrolling in PHY 2614.
5 All students must complete MTH 1864 before enrolling in PHY 2624.
