POFI 1204 COMPUTER FUNDAMENTALS: MS WINDOWS/OUTLOOK (2-1-2). Computer applications specific to business-related software. Emphasizes the concurrent development of office skills and computer knowledge. This skill development specifically includes MS Windows and Outlook. This course covers the required skill sets on the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) specialist-level exam for Outlook. Formerly known as POFI 1240--Computer Applications II: MS Windows/Outlook. POFI 1371 ACCESS (3-2-2). A course which provides instruction and business applications for designing, updating, and managing a database using Microsoft Access. POFM 1302 MEDICAL SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS (3-2-2). Medical software applications for the management and operation of health care information systems for various types of medical facilities. Fee: $12 Skills: R Prerequisites: Basic keyboarding and computer skills. ( ) Course Type: W
POFM 1309 MEDICAL OFFICE PROCEDURES (3-2-2). Introduction to basic medical office skills including telephone techniques, filing and indexing, mail handling, appointment scheduling, travel arrangements, correspondence, and business transactions. POFM 1364 PRACTICUM (OR FIELD EXPERIENCE) -- MEDICAL ADMINISTRATIVE/EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT AND MEDICAL SECRETARY (3-0-21). Practical general training and experiences in the workplace. The college with the employer develops and documents an individualized plan for the student. The plan relates the workplace training and experiences to the student's general and technical course of study. The guided external experiences may be for pay or no pay. POFT 1127 INTRODUCTION TO KEYBOARDING (1-0-3). Skill development in keyboarding with emphasis on alphabet, number, and symbol keys by touch. POFT 1231 BUSINESS MACHINE APPLICATIONS -- DATA ENTRY (2-1-2). Skill development in the operation of machines used in a business environment. Emphasis on the development of skills in using computer keypad, electronic calculators and other office machines. Coursework consists of skill development in ten-keypad on the computer and data entry applications. Internet project will be assigned to explore multi-task business equipment. POFT 1301 BUSINESS ENGLISH (3-3-0). Introduction to a practical application of basic language usage skills with emphasis on fundamentals of writing and editing for business. Access to business communications web site and on-line study guide helps students develop their English skills with additional emphasis on spelling and vocabulary. Skills: R Prerequisites: Reading from ACC Assessment with a score of 81 or TASP/THEA with a scoe of 230. ( ) Course Type: W
POFT 1309 ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE PROCEDURES I (3-2-2). Study of current office procedures including telephone skills, time management, travel and meeting arrangements, mail processing, and other duties and responsibilities in an office environment. POFT 1321 BUSINESS MATH (3-3-0). Instruction in the fundamentals of business mathematics including analytical and problem-solving skills for critical thinking in business applications. Skills: R Prerequisites: Students must have successfully completed MATD 0330 or score 33 on ACC Compass Math. ( ) Course Type: W
POFT 1449 ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE PROCEDURES II (4-3-2). In depth coverage of office applications with special emphasis on decision making, goal setting, management theories, and critical thinking. Use of corporate intranet and office simulation is included to develop knowledge of internet, corporations, and integrated software applications. Offered in Spring. POFT 2203 SPEED AND ACCURACY BUILDING (2-1-3). Review, correct, improve, and/or perfect touch keyboarding techniques for the purpose of increasing speed and improving accuracy. Skills: R Prerequisites: The ability to key 45 wpm. ( ) Course Type: W

POFT 2331 ADMINISTRATIVE SYSTEMS: OFFICE MANAGEMENT (3-2-2). Advanced concepts of project management and office procedures utilizing integration of previously learned office skills. Emphasis is placed on management functions, decision making by analyzing cases, and business communication. Offered in Spring. POFT 2386 INTERNSHIP -- ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT/SECRETARIAL SCIENCE, GENERAL (3-0-15). An experience external to the college for an advanced student in a specialized field involving a written agreement between the educational institution and a business or industry. Mentored and supervised by a workplace employee, the student achieves objectives that are developed and documented by the college and that are directly related to specific occupational outcomes.
