GAME 1304 LEVEL DESIGN (3-2-4). Introduction to the tools and concepts used to create levels for games and simulations. Incorporates level design, architecture theory, concepts of critical path and flow, balancing, play testing, and storytelling. Includes utilization of toolsets from industry titles. GAME 1343 GAME AND SIMULATION PROGRAMMING I (3-3-1). Game and simulation programming. Includes advanced pointer manipulation techniques and pointer applications, points and vectors, sound, and graphics. Incorporate sound and graphics in programs; develop programs that utilize 2D graphics; develop a basic 2D game; and write programs using advanced pointer techniques and applications. GAME 1359 GAME AND SIMULATION PROGRAMMING II (3-3-1). Design and development of 2D game and simulation programs including user interface design, mathematical elements, image and file structure, and software development techniques. Introduces the basics of 3D graphics related to game and simulation programming. Develop a complete game; and utilize simple vector and matrix operations to create simple wire-frame programs. GAME 1406 DESIGN AND CREATION OF GAMES (4-3-3). Introduction to game and simulation development. Includes analysis of existing applications and creation of a game using an existing game engine. In-depth coverage of the essential elements of game design. Also covers an overview of cultural history of electronic games, survey of the major innovators, and examination of the trends and taboos that motivate game design. GAME 1470 VIDEO GAME ART (4-3-3). Industry software tools used in the creation of 2D and 3D computer graphics. Includes the concepts, commands, and interfaces of industry-standard raster, vector graphics, and 3D software applications in order to create and manipulate 2D images and 3D models. GAME 1471 INTERACTIVE WRITING I (4-3-3). An introductory course in traditional narrative practices and forms of literature, as well as interactive fiction. GAME 1472 DESIGN AND CREATION OF GAMES II (4-3-3). Intermediate level course that includes video game projects and game designer tasks. Includes pre-production, design phase, production, and post-production. Addresses game systems, technical tools, scripting, level editors, level design fundamentals, power-up design, and enemy design. Also covers an analysis of contemporary game industry platforms and their specific challenges. Class project will include creating a video game. Fee: $24 Skills: G Prerequisites: GAME 1406. GAME 1473 INTERACTIVE WRITING II (4-3-3). An intermediate study of traditional narrative practices and forms of literature, as well as interactive fiction. GAME 2302 MATHEMATICAL APPLICATIONS FOR GAME DEVELOPMENT (3-3-1). Presents applications of mathematics and science in game and simulation programming. GAME 2332 PROJECT DEVELOPMENT I (3-3-1). Skill development in an original modification based on a current game engine. Includes management of version control; development of project timeliness; integration of sound, models, and animation; production of demos; and creation of original levels, characters, and content for a real-time multiplayer game. Applies skills learned in previous classes in a simulated real-world design team experience. Explain the fundamentals of project management and version control; prepare a design document and time schedules; and develop a game or simulation based on a design plan. GAME 2338 GAME TESTING (3-2-4). Testing and debugging gaming and simulation applications in the alpha and beta stages of production. Includes critiques of the product and written documentation of the testing and debugging processes. Fee: $24 Skills: G Prerequisites: GAME 1303. ( ) Course Type: W
GAME 2341 GAME SCRIPTING (3-3-1). Scripting languages with emphasis on game concepts and simulations. Describe the role of scripts in the development of games, simulations, and other software; and apply appropriate scripting structure and syntax for game and/or simulation software development. GAME 2342 GAME DEVELOPMENT USING C++ (3-3-1). Skill development in C++ programming for games and simulations. Examines real-world C++ development issues. Utilize standard game libraries; examine interfaces, exceptions, file access, and random numbers; and create basic game or simulation frameworks building upon C++ knowledge. GAME 2359 GAME AND SIMULATION GROUP PROJECT (3-2-4). Creation of a game and/or simulation project utilizing a team approach. Includes animation, titles, visualization of research results, modeling with polygon frames, curves and surfaces, 3D text and animation with keyframes, paths (objects and curves), morphing, vertex keys, skeletons, and lattices. GAME 2370 VIDEO GAME PRODUCTION (3-3-0). Intermediate course in the phases of game development and publishing. A production-centric course, which includes issues of design documentation, content creation, team roles, group dynamics, risk assessment, people management, and process management. Covers phases of product development: requirements, technical definition, development plan construction, plan management, problem management, process assessment, improvement and quality assurance/test. GAME 2386 INTERNSHIP -- ANIMATION, INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY, VIDEO GRAPHICS, AND SPECIAL EFFECTS (3-0-15). A work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills and concepts. A learning plan is developed by the college and the employer. As outlined in the learning plan, apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry.
