COMM 1317 NEWS PHOTOGRAPHY II (3-2-4). This course covers problems and practices of photography for newspapers including instruction in camera and equipment operation and maintenance, film and plate developing, and printing media. PHTC 1302 PHOTOGRAPHIC LAB TECHNIQUES (3-1-6). Photographic processing and printing using a variety of specialized techniques. Student will work on both color and black and white printing techniques. Requires visual acuity, accurate color perception, and good eye/hand coordination. May be repeated for credit. Must be taken concurrently with a camera class or with department chair approval. PHTC 1311 FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY (3-2-4). An introduction to camera operation and image production, composition, supplemental lighting, and use of exposure meters and filters. Student may be required to use outside commercial lab services. Students must furnish an approved adjustable digital camera capable of capturing in the Camera Raw format. PHTC 1313 HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY (3-3-1). A historical survey of the technical and aesthetic development of photography. Topics include the beginnings of the medium, inventors, development of photographic equipment, styles of the creative masters, aesthetic themes, and the social impact of photography. PHTC 1340 PHOTOGRAPHIC RETOUCHING I (3-1-6). Using a variety of retouching techniques to enhance prints and negatives. Includes restoration and coloration. PHTC 1341 COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY I (3-1-8). Examination of color theory as it applies to photography. Emphasis on color concepts and the intricacies of seeing and photographing in color along with digital asset management. Requires visual acuity, accurate color perception, and good eye/hand coordination. Must be taken with PHTC 2301 or department approval is required if taken as a stand alone class. PHTC 1343 EXPRESSIVE PHOTOGRAPHY (3-1-6). A study of formal, professional, and individual uses of photography by applying photographic technology to personalized needs. Emphasis on creative visual thinking and problem solving and the exploration of personal vision. May be repeated for credit with the emphasis in the fall on personal vision and the spring on visual thinking and problem solving. Must be taken concurrently with PHTC 2271. PHTC 1344 CLOSE UP AND MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY (3-1-8). Industrial, scientific, commercial, and other areas of professional photography. Includes equipment, science, technology, and techniques for procedures required in accomplishing various kinds of close up and macro photography. Must be taken concurrently with PHTC 2271. PHTC 1345 ILLUSTRATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY I (3-1-8). Instruction in the technical aspects involved in commercial photography. Topics include lighting equipment, techniques of production photography, reproduction principles, illustrative techniques, and advertising. Must be taken concurrently with PHTC 2271. PHTC 1347 LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY (3-1-8). Skill development in the inspection of the landscape visually and photographically utilizing various camera formats. Topics include exploration of historic, geographical, and cultural locations, and review of landscape photographers. Must be taken concurrently with PHTC 2271. PHTC 1351 PHOTOJOURNALISM I (3-2-4). Presentation of photographic techniques used by photojournalist in newspapers, magazines, and trade publications including news, feature, sports, editorial portraits, and photo essays. PHTC 1353 PORTRAITURE I (3-1-8). Photographic principles applied to portrait lighting, posing, and subject rapport. Students will use a variety of lighting techniques both in the studio and outside of class. Students will be required to furnish their own subjects. Must be taken concurrently with PHTC 2271. PHTC 1400 PHOTO DIGITAL IMAGING I (4-2-6). Computer and software instruction for electronic imaging. Includes color, gray scale, image conversion, presentation, and ethics. Students must have basic computer knowledge and an understanding of file management. Requires visual acuity, accurate color perception, and good eye/hand coordination. Class is taught on the Macintosh platform. Must be taken concurrently with PHTC 1311 or with department approval. Fee: $24 Insurance: $3.50Skills: G ( ) Course Type: W

PHTC 2301 INTERMEDIATE PHOTOGRAPHY (3-1-8). Continuation of Fundamentals of Photography. Emphasizes social, portrait, studio, fashion, theatrical, publicity, and event photography. Student will work both in the studio and on location. Must be taken concurrently with PHTC 1341. Student must provide a Digital Camera capable of capturing in the RAW format. PHTC 2331 ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY (3-1-8). Study of the equipment, processes, and procedures necessary for the photography of building exteriors and interiors, dusk/night and night architectural landscapes, and construction progress. PHTC 2343 PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT (3-2-4). A culmination experience for the evaluation of the student's photographic competencies. Includes association with a professional photographic organization, skills in resume creation, completion of portfolio, professional self-presentation, comprehensive exam, and seminars in areas of photographic interest. May not be used for laboratory support for other advanced courses. Offered in the summer semester. Fee: $24 Insurance: $3.50Skills: O Prerequisites: 21 hours in photography. ( ) Course Type: W

PHTC 2345 ILLUSTRATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY II (3-1-8). A continuation of the study of commercial photographic principles with an emphasis on enhancing technical and creative quality. Student will use a variety of equipment to produce images for use in periodical and catalog advertising. Student may use an outside photo lab for prints and processing or must take PHTC 2271 concurrently. Fee: $24 Insurance: $3.50Skills: G Prerequisites: PHTC 1345. ( ) Course Type: W

PHTC 2349 PHOTO DIGITAL IMAGING II (3-1-8). Continued skill development in the use of the computer and software for photographic manipulation and output. Fee: $24 Insurance: $3.50Skills: G Prerequisites: PHTC 1400. ( ) Course Type: W

PHTC 2351 PHOTOJOURNALISM II (3-1-8). A continuation of Photojournalism I. May include documentary, corporate and annual report photography. Students will use cameras along with location electronic flash to supplement existing light. Must be taken concurrently with PHTC 2271. May be repeated for credit. PHTC 2353 PORTRAITURE II (3-1-8). A continuation of the study of principles of effective portraiture with specific emphasis on unique presentation and environmental and location studies. Student may use an outside photo lab for printing and processing or must take PHTC 2271. Fee: $24 Insurance: $3.50Skills: B Prerequisites: PHTC 1353 and PHTC 1340 (May be taken concurrently.) PHTC 2371 WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY (3-1-8). Introduction to the processes and concepts of photographing a wedding, to include: booking, photographing, and post-production. Student must have a DSLR camera. Must be taken concurrently with PHTC 2271. Class is taught in summer only. Student will need to be able to work on Saturdays in addition to class time. PHTC 2440 PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIO MANAGEMENT (4-3-4). Examination of photographic management, pricing, market analysis, promotion, networking, job acquisition, photographic equipment analysis, and photo lab selection.
