Architectural and Engineering Computer Aided Design

ARCHITECTURAL SPECIALIZATION
Associate of Applied Science Degree

Tech Prep

This program is intended for students pursing careers in the Architectural CAD Drafting and Design Specialization, or by students preparing to transfer to university architectural programs.

Architectural CAD drafters work with architects and designers in the preparation of drawings necessary to build a structure. Study of construction techniques and materials, as well as building codes are important to the education of an architectural drafter. Some architectural drafters specialize in residential architecture (homes) while others may specialize in commercial architecture (buildings and apartments) while others may specialize in structural drafting (steel buildings, concrete structures).

Students who choose the Architectural Specialization career track are employed by organizations that offer services to the Architectural, Engineering, Construction, and/or Building industries. These may include working for an Architect, Professional Engineer, an MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) design firm or a civil engineering firm (design of subdivisions, roads, etc.). Students are strongly encouraged to meet with the Architectural and Engineering Computer Aided Design faculty advisor before pursuing this degree program.

ELECTRONIC GRAPHICS SPECIALIZATION
Associate of Applied Science Degree

Tech Prep

This program is intended for students pursing careers in the Electronic CAD Graphics Specialization.

Electrical CAD drafters prepare wiring and layout diagrams used by workers who install and repair electrical equipment and wiring in electrical distribution systems and buildings. Electronics CAD drafters draw wiring diagrams, circuit board assembly diagrams, schematics, and integrated circuit layout drawings used in the manufacture, installation, and repair of electronic devices and components.

Students who choose the Electronic Graphics Specialization career track are employed by organizations in the semiconductor and commercial electronics fields. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with the Architectural and Engineering Computer Aided Design faculty advisor before pursuing this degree program.

MECHANICAL SPECIALIZATION
Associate of Applied Science Degree

Tech Prep

This program is intended for students pursing careers in the Mechanical CAD Graphics Specialization.

Mechanical drafters work with mechanical engineers and designers to prepare detail and assembly drawings of a wide variety of machinery and mechanical devices. They may be involved in specifying design elements such as the types of fasteners (nuts, bolts, screws) needed to assemble the machine. Mechanical drafters are usually trained in engineering techniques as well as manufacturing theory and standards.

Students who choose the Mechanical Specialization career track are employed by those who offer services to the Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication, Automotive, and/or other Mechanical type industries. These may include working for a Professional Engineer, an industrial design firm, or assembly/fabrication enterprises. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with the Architectural and Engineering Computer Aided Design faculty advisor before pursuing this degree program.
