HITT 1213 INSURANCE CODING (2-1-2). Provides skills and knowledge in the health information field for ICD-9 and CPT coding of insurance forms for reimbursement of medical services. Fee: $24 Skills: E ( ) Course Type: W

HITT 1249 PHARMACOLOGY (2-2-0). Overview of the basic concept of the pharmacological treatment of various diseases affecting major body systems. Prerequisites: MDCA 1409 and HITT 1305. ( ) Course Type: W

HITT 1253 LEGAL & ETHICAL ASPECTS OF HEALTH INFORMATION (2-2-0). Concepts of confidentiality, ethics, health care legislation, and regulations relating to the maintenance and use of health information. Suitable for all health care majors. Skills: E ( ) Course Type: W

HITT 1270 INSURANCE CODING (2-1-2). Introduction to computerized methods for the management and operation of medical coding and reimbursement systems for various types of medical facilities. Skills: I Prerequisites: HITT 1441. ( ) Course Type: W

HITT 1301 HEALTH DATA CONTENT AND STRUCTURE (3-3-0). Introduction to systems and processes for collecting, maintaining, and disseminating primary and secondary health related information. Instruction in delivery and organizational structure to include content of health record, documentation requirements, registries, indices, licensing, regulatory agencies, forms, and screens. HITT 1305 MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY (3-3-0). An in-depth study of word origin and structure through the introduction of prefixes, suffixes, root words, plurals, abbreviations and symbols, surgical procedures, medical specialties, and diagnostic procedures. Skills: E ( ) Course Type: W

HITT 1441 CODING AND CLASSIFICATION SYSTEMS (4-2-4). Application of basic coding rules, principles, guidelines, and conventions. Includes 3 hours lecture and 3 hours lab. Skills: P Prerequisites: HITT 1305 and MDCA 1409. ( ) Course Type: W

HITT 2266 CODING PRACTICUM (2-0-14). Practical general training and experiences in the workplace. The college, with the employer, develops and documents a plan for the student. The plan relates the workplace training and experiences to the student's general and technical course of study. The guided experiences may be paid or unpaid. This will be a non-paid experience according to the American Health Information Management Association's Council on Accreditation. Placement is the responsibility of the college faculty. Enrollment to the HITT 2266 Coding Practicum is limited due to Clinical site availability. Department Chair approval is required.
