GEOG 2470 INTRODUCTION TO GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) (4-3-3). GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is a computer-based tool that uses spatial (geographic) data to analyze and solve real-world problems. This course is designed to introduce the student to the basic principles and techniques of GIS. The lab material will emphasize GIS data collection, entry, storage, analysis, and output using ArcGIS. GEOG 2471 ADVANCED GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) (4-3-3). Advanced GIS is designed for the student who wants to pursue a career in GIS. The course will cover planning, designing, and implementing a scalable, enterprise-wide GIS and relational database management system. The course will look at common problems encountered when implementing a GIS and examine possible solutions to these problems. The course will also cover sophisticated spatial analyses such as neighborhood functions, cost-surface generation, density mapping, and spatial modeling. Fee: $12 Skills: G Prerequisites: GEOG 2470.
