Coverage of the marketing mix in travel, market segmentation, market planning, and the use of advertising and other communication techniques. A study of manual travel agency operations and basic hands-on computerized reservations techniques in manual travel agency operations; emphasis on making air, hotel, tour, and cruise reservations, writing itineraries, reading and interpreting brochures, and ticketing rules, credit card sales, ticket refunds, exchanges, and reissues. TRVM 1372 DESTINATIONS USA (3-3-0). Focus on the travel agency's responsibility for servicing the client; appropriate information and incentive for selecting a travel destination within the United States. TRVM 2331 CONVENTION AND EXPOSITION LAW AND ETHICS (3-3-0). Application of general legal principles and statutory requirements to meetings, conventions, and trade shows. Emphasis on ethical considerations to problems faced by meeting planners, hotels, and convention centers in the negotiations and implementation of agreements for meeting and similar events. TRVM 2333 APPLIED CONVENTION/MEETING MANAGEMENT (3-3-0). Discussion of meeting planning with emphasis on the key areas of meeting management. Topics include needs assessment, identifying meeting objectives, program development, facility selection, negotiations, contracts, meeting and function space setup, promotion and publicity, budgeting, evaluation, and legal issues. TRVM 2366 PRACTICUM OR FIELD EXPERIENCE - TRAVEL AND TOURISM (3-1-15). Practical general training and experiences in the workplace. The college with the employer develops and documents an individualized plan for the student. The plan relates the workplace training and experiences to the students' general and technical course of study. The guided external experiences may be for pay or no pay. This course may be repeated if topics and learning outcomes vary. Prerequisites: Department approval required. ( )
TRVM 2371 DESTINATIONS INTERNATIONAL (3-3-0). Focus on reference manuals available to the travel agency to assist in research and planning international tours and vacations. Topics include independent versus escorted tour; driving versus motor coach; American versus international hotels; sightseeing guides; time allotments; legal and international relations; and international and American customs. TRVM 2437 TRAVEL OPERATIONS II (4-3-2).
Continuation of the study of airline computer reservation systems. Emphasis on reserving cars and hotels, using queues, creating passenger profiles, interpreting air fares, rules, and routing, and explaining these to a passenger.
