VNG 1107 VOCATIONAL NURSING HEALTH CONCEPTS (7-7-0). Introduces role of vocational nurse as a member of the health care team. Basic information about health/illness presented. The student learns concepts of communication, nursing process, nutrition, growth and development, mental health, microbiology, fluid and electrolyte balance, and diagnostic testing for health promotion. General care of persons hospitalized with immobility, coma, surgery, rehabilitation; chronic illnesses are presented; concepts used for adjusting to loss and cultural spiritual needs are discussed. Prerequisites: AHS 1303, AHS 1403, BIO 1714, VNG 1105, or concurrent with VNG 1105. Instructor approval required.
VNG 1204 VOCATIONAL NURSING: HEALTH PROMOTION/MAINTENANCE I (4-4-0). Dynamics of health promotion/maintenance, disease prevention and care of middle aged and elderly persons are discussed. Common, but specific medical/surgical problems, sociological needs and the individual's ability to adapt to internal and external influences are included. Prerequisites: VNG 1107 and Instructor approval.
VNG 1207 NURSING PROCESS THROUGH THE LIFE SPAN I (7-2-15). Nursing process applied to health care needs of middle aged and elderly persons. Prerequisites: VNG 1204, VNG 1207 and Instructor approval.
VNG 1307 NURSING PROCESS THROUGH THE LIFE SPAN II (7-2-15). Nursing process applied to care of children and the child-bearing family. Simulated laboratory and actual clinical experience will offer the student an opportunity to gain skills required for care of children, families during pregnancy, childbirth and post-partum. VNG 1402 VOCATIONAL NURSING: TRENDS AND ISSUES (2-2-0). An overview of nursing, the healthcare system, and current trends and issues in health care; legal and ethical concerns in vocational nursing practice; functions of and participation in professional organizations, and roles and responsibilities of the Vocational Nurse as a team member and team leader. Prerequisites: VNG 1204, VNG 1207 and Instructor approval.
VNG 1403 VOCATIONAL NURSING: HEALTH PROMOTION/MAINTENANCE III (3-3-0). Dynamics of health promotion, disease prevention and care of young adults and groups of patients are discussed. Common, but specific medical and surgical problems, sociological needs, and the external influences are included. An additional focus will be on planning and provision of nursing care to groups of persons utilizing beginning management skills. Prerequisites: VNG 1303, VNG 1307 and Instructor approval.
VNG 1406 NURSING PROCESS THROUGH THE LIFE SPAN III (6-3-12). Nursing process applied to care of young adults and to groups of patients.
