PTA 1315 SURFACE AND FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY (5-3-6). Designed to enable students to understand anatomical structure and motion as applied to physical therapy procedures. The student gains knowledge of the human musculoskeletal system with emphasis given to the biomechanics of human motion. Laboratory procedures will include basic skills of observation and will emphasize the assessment skills utilized in physical therapy (goniometry and manual muscle testing) to determine the condition of the patient/client's musculoskeletal system. PTA 1403 PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL CONDITIONS (3-3-0). Designed to acquaint the beginning student with pathophysiology, etiology, symptomatology, management, and prognoses of the various pathological and injury-related problems treated in the physical therapy/rehabilitative components of health care agencies. Comparisons of normal and abnormal movements, structural and functional relationships and the need for physical therapy intervention are stressed. Particular emphasis is placed on diseases and/or injuries involving the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. Prerequisites: PTA 1304 and PTA 1315.
PTA 1405 PHYSICAL THERAPY II (5-3-6). Objectives are designed to orient first year students to the hospital setting in general and to the Physical Therapy Department in particular. Application of therapeutic modalities is initiated with specific emphasis on indications, contraindications, medical efficacy, and physiologic effects pertinent to utilization of various physical agents. Basic principles of testing and treatment procedures are introduced to give the student awareness and understanding of how to assist the physical therapist. Fee: $24 Prerequisites: PTA 1304.
PTA 1502 THERAPEUTIC NEUROPHYSIOLOGY (2-2-0). Designed to provide the PTA student with a more in-depth study of neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology as it relates to the neurological approaches utilized in physical therapy. Emphasis will be placed on the neurological conditions frequently treated in physical therapy. Prerequisites: PTA 1403 and PTA 1405.
PTA 1504 PHYSICAL THERAPY III (4-3-3). A study of basic theories and therapeutic application of exercise. The student gains technical skills related to ambulation-including measurement and fitting of ambulation aids-ambulation exercises, mat programs and gait drills and patterns. Emphasis is given to the principles of therapeutic exercise and in the appropriate use of related equipment. Fee: $18 Prerequisites: PTA 1405.
PTA 2104 PHYSICAL THERAPY IV (4-3-3). A continued study of the principles and practices of therapeutic exercise as it pertains to specific patient treatment. The student gains increased technical skills related to ambulation exercises, mat programs and gait drills and patterns. Additionally, the student will attain entry level skills in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and management of vascular disorders. Fee: $18 Skills: P Prerequisites: PTA 1504.
PTA 2113 CLINICAL TRAINING I (3-1-10). Students will be introduced to the physical therapy clinic through observation and experience within an area physical therapy facility under the direct supervision of a practicing Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant. Fee: $12 Skills: P Prerequisites: PTA 1315 and PTA 1504.
PTA 2204 PHYSICAL THERAPY V (4-3-3). A study of the principles and practices of neurological rehabilitation and its application to specific patient treatment. The student gains increased technical skills related to ambulation exercises, mat programs and gait drills and patterns as they pertain to the neurological patient. Fee: $18 Prerequisites: PTA 2104.
PTA 2214 CLINICAL TRAINING II (4-1-15). Students will continue their experience within a physical therapy facility under the direct supervision of a practicing Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant. Fee: $18 Prerequisites: PTA 2104.
PTA 2301 PHYSICAL THERAPY VI (1-1-0). Second year students continue to explore new and innovative techniques utilized in physical therapy. Emphasis is placed on professional development and the transition from student to practicing health care provider. Prerequisites: PTA 2204.
PTA 2316 CLINICAL TRAINING III (6-1-20). Students will expand their clinical knowledge and experience within a physical therapy facility under the direct supervision of a practicing Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant. Fee: $12 Prerequisites: PTA 2204 and BIO 1724.
