PHO 1034 DARKROOM TECHNOLOGY I (4-2-7). Theoretical and procedural training in color and B/W processing and printing using 35mm and medium formats. Supports PHO 1014 must be taken concurrently. Requires visual acuity adequate for focusing enlargers and print retouching using magnifiers, accurate color perception, and good eye/hand coordination. Fee: $24 Prerequisites: PHO 1073 or Instructor approval.
PHO 1044 DARKROOM TECHNOLOGY II (4-2-7). Theoretical and procedural training in color and B/W processing and printing using 35mm, medium, and large formats. Introduction to special materials and procedures. Supports PHO 1024 or advanced camera courses and is suitable for advanced general training. Fee: $24 Prerequisites: PHO 1034 or Instructor approval. May be repeated at higher level for credit.
PHO 1053 RETOUCHING PRINTS AND NEGATIVES (3-2-4). Use of dye, pencil, knife and other materials to retouch and enhance prints and negatives. Restorations, oils, transparency enhancement, and other skills may be included when repeated at higher level. Students should have corrected visual acuity of 20-15 converging, accurate color perception, good eye/hand coordination, and manual dexterity. PHO 1073 FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY (3-2-4). Basic picture taking with 35mm cameras. Introduction to darkroom techniques. Study and practice of exposure, composition, depth of field, flash, and filters in the environment. Study and practice of lighting forms, posing, ratios and exposure determination in the studio. Student may be required to use some outside commercial lab services. Student must furnish acceptable adjustable camera unless course is a requirement of another major. Course usually transfers to other colleges. Fee: $24
PHO 1164 PHOTO COMPUTER IMAGING I (4-2-7). Introduction to Adobe PhotoShop and Micrografx Picture Publisher (the two most prominent image manipulation programs) for photographic retouching, copy, and restoration. Included will be scanning photos into the computer and outputting manipulated images as prints. The skills learned will place the student at the threshold level and prepare him/her for more advanced training. Fee: $24 Skills: R Prerequisites: PRT 1044 required or Instructor approval.
PHO 2014 ADVERTISING AND FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY (4-2-7). The study and production of illustrations of products and fashion for use in periodical and catalog advertising using 35mm, medium, and large formats. Usually offered in fall. (all fashion) Fee: $24 Prerequisites: PHO 1024 or Instructor approval. PHO 1044 (repeat), PHO 2073, or PHO 2093/94 must be taken concurrently or separately for darkroom support. PHO 2034 ADVANCED PORTRAITURE (4-2-8). Professional multi-pose studio portraiture and study of reception room techniques. Usually offered in spring. Fee: $24 Prerequisites: PHO 1024 or Instructor approval. Take concurrently or separately with PHO 1044, PHO 2073 or PHO 2093/94.
PHO 2044 ADVANCED PHOTO TECHNOLOGY & PHOTO LAB (4-2-7).
This advanced technology course provides knowledge and skills in highly technical photographic areas of extreme value in industry and professional photo lab jobs. It encompasses but is not limited to; the study of sensitometry, densitometry, quality control, special lab techniques, masking procedures, reproduction techniques, duping techniques, macro, micro, optics utilization, and numerous other high tech skills.

PHO 2053 ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY (3-2-4). This course consists of "on location" photography of buildings, industrial plants, and landscapes using all formats. Recommend PHO 2093/94, PHO 2073, or PHO 1044 for additional darkroom time. Usually offered in summer. Fee: $24 Prerequisites: PHO 1014 or Instructor approval. PHO 2064 STUDIO MANAGEMENT (4-3-3). Workshop course in management styles, budgeting, purchasing, pricing, records keeping, employee relations, advertising, public relations, networking, and job search. Usually offered in fall. Fee: $16 Prerequisites: PHO 1014 or Instructor approval.
PHO 2073 COMPETENCY COURSE (3-2-4). Darkroom course for instruction and practice in making photographic prints for professional exhibits, competitions, and portfolios. Students attend professional seminars or conventions at own expense and make technical reports plus written value analyses of programs, print exhibits, print judging, and trade show displays following course guidelines and instruction. Always offered in summer. Fee: $24 Prerequisites: Advanced PHO courses or Instructor approval. May be used as laboratory support for other advanced courses.
PHO 2083 PHOTOGRAPHY OF PEOPLE IN THEIR ENVIRONMENTS (3-2-4). This course includes such topics as photojournalism, environmental portraiture, people at work, sports, and executive portraits on location using 35mm and medium formats. PHO 2084 CLOSE UP AND MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY (4-2-7). This course provides necessary skills required in industrial, scientific, commercial, and other areas of professional photography. It encompasses the study of the equipment, science, technology, and techniques for the many procedures required in accomplishing the various kinds of close up and macro photography. PHO 2094 DIRECTED STUDIES AND SPECIAL TOPICS (4-2-7). Students select subjects in which individualized objectives and assignments are created, limited only by the availability of facilities and the competencies of the various instructors. Students may also elect to work to existing syllabi to acquire needed skills. Special topics may also be used to present "one of a kind" courses or workshops. PHO 2130 PHOTOGRAPHY PRACTICUM (3-1-15). Experiential learning under conditions which may be evaluated for credit using an approved work book in which are analyzed objectives, training facility, training officer, and history of the organization. May be repeated once for credit. Prerequisites: Student required to secure employment prior to registration.
PHO 2143 ADVANCED TECHNICAL LIGHTINGS (4-2-7). Study and training in highly complex lighting techniques. These will include utilizing specular, diffused, point, broad and modified approaches in lighting. Students will understand appropriate resolution of detail and production of desired shadow transfer when photographing different subjects. Prerequisites: PHO 2014 or PHO 2034 required or Instructor approval. May be repeated at a higher level for credit.
PHO 2153 CREATIVE CAMERA (3-2-4). Study in the application of very creative approaches to photography, building on the science, technology, and techniques learned in the earlier courses of the Photographic Technology Department. This course is comprehensive and tends to produce a synergistic output from the combination of technical and artistic inputs. PHO 2164 PHOTO COMPUTER IMAGING II (4-2-7). Advanced retouching, copy, restoration, color correction, data importation, introduction to composite imaging, and other areas as the field progresses. PHO 2264 PHOTO COMPUTER IMAGING III (4-2-7). Advanced retouching, color correction, enhancement, blue screen/green screen background dropout and replacement. Advanced image compositing, data import, and other areas as the field progresses. Completion of this course qualifies a person to work in virtually any photo computer image service organization, at a high technical level.
