MATD 0132 BUILDING SUCCESS IN MATHEMATICS (1-2-0). A course designed to focus on seeking patterns and building strategies for problem-solving in mathematics. A nontraditional approach using hands-on materials and small group activities will be emphasized. Content includes non-routine problem solving, how to read mathematical information, and how to study mathematics. (DVM 1121)

MATD 0162 TASP MATH PREPARATION (1-0-2). Designed to prepare students with minimal math deficiencies to perform effectively in college-level course work as defined by the Texas Academic Skills Program. (DVM 1051)

MATD 0172 WORD PROBLEMS (1-2-0). A course designed for students currently enrolled in Elementary Algebra, MATD 0370 or Intermediate Algebra, MATD 0390, to develop the skills necessary to solve word problems. Content includes English to mathematics translation and techniques for solving a variety of problem types including coin problems, rate problems, mixture problems, percent problems, and geometric problems. (DVM 1121)

MATD 0330 BASIC MATH SKILLS (3-3-0). A course designed to develop basic arithmetic skills prior to beginning a sequence of algebra courses; the first of which is Pre-algebra, MATD 0350. Content includes operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, ratio and proportions and percent. Repeatable up to four credit hours. The same course is offered in a one hour (0130) and two hour (0230) format. (DVM 1103)

MATD 0350 PRE-ALGEBRA (3-3-0). A course between arithmetic and algebra while including a review of some topics in arithmetic (fractions, decimals, etc.), the focus of the course will be an introduction to the concepts of algebra: variables, simplification and evaluation of algebraic expressions, solutions of linear equations in one and two variables, straight line graphs, etc. Emphasis will be placed on setting up and solving word problems, relating simple algebraic concepts to geometry. The same course is offered in a one hour (0150) and two hour (0250) format. Prerequisites: C or better in Basic Math Skills, MATD 0330, its equivalent knowledge, or a passing score on the MATD 0350 placement test. (DVM 1153)

MATD 0360 TOPICS IN DEVELOPMENTAL MATHEMATICS (3-4-0). This course surveys a variety of mathematical topics needed to prepare student for the college-level courses MATH 1332, 1342, and MTH 1573. It also covers most TASP mathematics topics. Topics include the arithmetic of integers and rational numbers, evaluating expressions and formulas, calculator use, problem-solving using data interpretation and analysis, informal geometry, pattern recognition, percentages, ratio and proportion, measurements, algebraic techniques for solving linear equations and inequalities, quadratic equations, rational equations, systems of equations, etc. Students who need to prepare for MATH 1314 College Algebra, MATH 1324 Math for Business & Economics, MATH 1316 Trigonometry, etc., should take MATD 0370 (Elementary Algebra) and MATD 0390 (Intermediate Algebra) rather than this course. The same course is offered in a one hour (0160) and two hour (0260) format. Prerequisites: A passing grade of C or better in MATD 0350 (Prealgebra) or an acceptable score on the ACC assessment test. (DVM 1163)

MATD 0370 ELEMENTARY ALGEBRA (3-4-0). A course designed to develop the skills and understanding contained in the first year of secondary school algebra. Topics include arithmetic of positive and negative numbers; products and factoring; algebraic fractions; and equations. The same course is offered in a one hour (0170) and two hour (0270) format. Prerequisites: C or better in Prealgebra, MATD 0350, or its equivalent knowledge, or passing score on the MATD 0370 placement test. (DVM 1173)

MATD 0380 GEOMETRY (3-3-0). A course designed to develop skills and understanding of plane, solid and transformational geometry. Topics include geometric constructions and transformation polygons, polyhedrons, circles, area, volume, congruence, similarity, theorems, and proofs. The same course is offered in a one hour (0180) and two hour (0280) format.
